About Us

Hiking at Timothy Lake

Hello, and welcome to our blog!

We are a family from the Portland, Oregon area heading out for an adventure on the Camino de Santiago.

We plan to begin our journey from St. Jean Pied de Port, France on August 30, 2018. We’ll need to return to our jobs back in the States by October 1. And as for what happens in between—that’s what this blog is all about!

We’ll be posting as we go and would be delighted to have you following along.

Happy Trails,

The Rodrigues – Guy (Papa), Dorothy (Mama), and Sullivan (Sully)

A Bit More about Us . . .

(We just shared a post with a little more about each of us; pasting it below!)

We thought we’d let you know a little more about us before we get too far: What we do when we’re not hiking, what we are looking forward to, what we are afraid of, and a little known fact about each of us.

When I’m Not Hiking: Park Manager with Oregon State Parks

What I Am Looking Forward to Most: Experiencing a foreign country with my family. Seeing the different sides of each other as we meet the challenges that it will undoubtedly bring.

What I Feel Most Unsure about: Everything about our lives in the last year or so has been about sleep. So I would say that. They say it is happy wife, happy life but I am pretty sure it is more like good night’s rest, life is best.

Little Known Fact about Guy: If it were possible, I’d secretly rather sail across Spain. But that didn’t get many votes.

When I’m Not Hiking: Park Interpretation and Education Specialist

What I Am Looking Forward to Most: Eating cheese and bread freely! Oh, and fully immersing ourselves in a new culture. I cannot wait to meet Spain.

What I Feel Most Unsure about: Overnight accommodations for a not-quite two-year-old. And bedbugs.

Little Known Fact about Dorothy: Since I am a Park Ranger for a power company (Portland General Electric), I am a secretly a bona fide Power Ranger!

When I’m Not Hiking: Parks and Recreation Director in training

What I Am Looking Forward to Most: Confusing my parents as I test out my Spanish in addition to my English.

What I Feel Most Unsure about: Keeping track of my “baby” (blankie) while packing across Spain.

Little Known Fact about Sully: I have my own secret door that allows me to wander around the backyard whenever I want. I share my door with my kitties, Dakota and Joey.
